Sophocles trilogy performed without incident

A view of the controversial performance of "Le Cycle des Femmes: trois histoires de Sophocle", by Lebanese-Canadian writer and director Wajdi Mouawad on Saturday at the Herod Atticus Odeon. The play was performed without incident or protests, which was not the case in Canada and Barcelona, amongst others, given that Bertrand Cantat, the lead singer of the 1990s-era French rock group Noir Desir, took part in the play's Greek chorus. Cantat's four-year incarceration -- out of an eight-year conviction for manslaughter -- for fatally assaulting his French actress girlfriend Marie Trintignant in a Vilnius hotel room in 2003 generated angry reactions by feminist groups in France and around the world.
